Cookvention 2000

First I took a flight to Aarhus in Denmark. Stayed at Peter’s parent’s house for one night.

We than drove south to Germany via Hamburg and Bremen, into Holland and Belgium and crossed the border to France. We stayed over at a small town called Roubaix and had a nice dinner in a small French restaurant.

The next day we drove to our destination about 25 kilometres east from Toulouse. It is a small village called Frespech. In the evening we met our friends and had a very nice dinner with duck liver pate and French wine. Friday morning we all met at Tommy’s and Ann’s house and decided the menu for Saturday. After a hearty breakfast we drove into a small village and bought all the items needed. During Friday afternoon we visited a duck liver pate museum. Friday evening we had a BBQ for 18 persons.

On Saturday the 6th of August we made all the preparations for the annual dinner with Baghdad Gourmet Society. 7 of the member chefs had come. We ended up with a 6 course dinner for 18 persons.

Two starters - duck liver pate with salad and oil and truffle dressing and walnuts - goat cheese on fried bread with honey and a salad. Two main courses - scallops with saffron sauce, rice and French beans - duck file with oven fried potatoes and fried chanterelle. We ended the dinner with a cheese and fruit table.

On Sunday lunch we started the return trip and stayed over in Paris. Visit to a nice restaurant, “La Closerie des Lilas” for dinner. Next morning we went to the Eiffel tower, but the queue was already in the morning about two hours long, so we went for some small shopping and than the trip north continued.

The stop over point was Osnabruck in Germany. In the old town we had a very nice dinner in the Town Hall. This time no wine, but German beer.

The next day we returned to Aarhus, after a refill stop just south from the Danish border, and on Wednesday I took part in celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of my friend’s parents.

The celebration started with a hearty Danish breakfast for 35 persons, than slowly turned into a Danish lunch and in the evening we ended up having dinner in a very nice restaurant, Navigator, in the harbour.

On Thursday afternoon I took my flight back to Gothenburg, after a hearty Danish breakfast.
